Barbara Wiggins has been an entertainment industry professional for over 20 years. From 2005-2018, Barbara worked in venue management for the third largest private facility management company in the nation.

Barbara held senior level positions during her tenure as a venue manager. As the Director of Facility and Services for a new arena in Youngstown, Ohio, she oversaw operations for the 6,500-seat, $55 million venue, which was still under construction when she arrived. Her duties included receiving bids for and purchasing $2.4 million in furniture, fixtures and equipment on behalf of the City of Youngstown. The venue opened in October of that year.

In 2006, Barbara became the Executive Director of the Topeka Performing Arts Center in Topeka, Kansas. The 2,600-seat theatre boasted 15,000-square feet of meeting space and played a major role in the city’s downtown revitalization efforts.

In 2013, as Director of Event Services, Barbara played a major role in the opening of the University of Houston’s $120 million, 40,000-seat football stadium.

In 2015, Barbara accepted a position with the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee as the Director of Planning and Logistics. After Super Bowl LI, she oversaw the final phase of the $17 million renovation of Holland Civic Center Place, in Holland, Michigan.

Barbara is committed to serving her community. Throughout the years she has been a member of various boards of directors, including the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Downtown Topeka, Inc. and Visit Topeka, Inc. She worked as a community volunteer as a member of the Downtown Topeka Rotary Club and Junior League of Topeka.

Barbara was a member of the International Association of Venue Managers for more than 10 years. She is also a graduate of the IAVM’s Venue Management School (June 2008).

Barbara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. She has a Master of Education degree in Sport Management from Baylor University.

TESTIMONIALS

“Barbara first worked for me in 2005 as my Director of Facility and Services in Youngstown, Ohio. There, we opened a $55 million, 6,500-seat arena with the City of Youngstown. She recruited, hired and trained a team of entertainment industry professionals with backgrounds in event management and facility operations and oversaw the installation of $2.4 million in furniture, fixtures and equipment. In the fall of 2013, she joined me at the University of Houston as the Director of Event Services for the UH Sports & Entertainment team. She executed new standards in event operations for all the S&E managed facilities, including the $120 million TDECU Stadium. Without hesitation, I highly recommend her for any senior level management opportunity.”

From Jeff Kossow, COO at Smart Law, former Executive Director with VenuWorks, Inc.

I met Barbara through Leadership Greater Topeka (class of 2007, best class ever!) when she was Executive Director of the Topeka Performing Arts Center and I was Director of the City of Topeka Human Relations Department. We became friends during that time, but I also relied on her as our department planned outreach activities for the community. Barbara was happy to meet our needs for space for special events and speakers, dealing creatively with last minute challenges that often arise with such activities. She was held in high esteem by our peers in the LGT 2007 class, always present and active in the classes, providing perspectives both professionally and personally that enriched our knowledge and informed our experiences. I recommend Barbara as either a consultant or an employee, as she always takes the time to learn your needs, apply the best solution and take action to make it happen. I'm happy to serve as a reference for Barbara for anybody who has questions as she furthers her professional career.

From Rio Cervantes-Reed, Chief Civil Rights & Operations Officer

“I have known Barbara for over thirty years-- we first worked together for a small telecommunications company while in college. As we have gone separate ways professionally, we have remained in touch. As she transitioned back to Texas, she entrusted me with guiding her through that professional process. And all of these years later, I can still say that she is one of the most dedicated and focused people that I know and that she cares deeply about the quality of her work and the community in which she serves.”
